Release Notes 22.04
This document describes announcements as well as discontinuations in the scope of ix.Cloud services.
Announcements
This section describes changes to existing features as well as introductions of new features and services that were introduced in the scope of this release.
Dedicated Subscription for PaaS VMs
PaaS resources such as managed DB instances or K8s clusters are built on VM resources. These VM resources are visible in the portal under Virtual Machines and under the subscription in which the PaaS resource was ordered.
Since these virtual machines fall within the provider's area of responsibility, they will no longer be displayed.
Addon "Managed OS"
Our proven "IaaS+ Service", which can optionally be added to a VM, will in the future be provided as an addon called "Managed OS".
Further details on this announcement can be found in the news entry.
Windows Server 2022
As of now, Windows Server 2022 can be ordered as a guest operating system for virtual machines.
With the introduction of Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2016 will be removed from the scope of ix.Cloud services (see discontinuation).
Further details on this announcement can be found in the news entry.
Subnet Management
In the "Networking \ Subnet" section, the functions "New", "Edit" and "Share" have been introduced.
In this context, all existing subnets were linked by Inventx to one of the existing subscriptions and shared with other subscriptions analogous to today's assignment. The assignment of the subnet to a subscription was performed based on the subnet name.
Further details on this announcement can be found in the news entry.
Discontinuations
This section lists features and services that will be removed from the scope of ix.Cloud with this release.
MSSQL Server on Virtual Machine
In compliance with the 6-month notice period, the "MSSQL Server on Virtual Machine" service will be discontinued as of release 22.06.
All already ordered instances of this service can continue to be operated without restrictions.
As an alternative, the service Managed xSQL Instance can be used.
HighClock Hardware Profiles in SLA Silver
Due to lack of demand for HighClock hardware profiles in the SLA Silver variant, this service will be discontinued with release 22.08 in compliance with the 6-month notice period. HighClock hardware profiles in variants other than SLA Silver are not affected.
Please note that new orders of this service are no longer possible as of now.
VM Patch Status
The revised VM reports (patching, backup and antivirus) including API endpoints have been in productive operation for some time and have established themselves as the standard. For this reason, the old API endpoint "Patch Status" (https://api.ixcloud.ch/resources/ix.compute/v1/subscriptions/\{subscriptionId\}/virtualMachines/\{name\}/reports/patchStatus) will be removed from the scope of functions with release 22.04.
Windows Server 2016
With the introduction of Windows Server 2022 (see announcement), Windows Server 2016 will be removed from the scope of ix.Cloud services. Thus, the Windows Server 2016 operating system can no longer be used for new VM orders.
All VMs that were ordered with Windows Server 2016 in the past can continue to be operated without restrictions until the manufacturer's end-of-life date.
Further details on this discontinuation can be found in the news entry.
