Discontinuation of CIS-Hardening Addon

Background

The IX Security Baseline is now integrated by default into the image build process. This ensures that with every deployment via the Cloud Portal, the image used meets current security requirements.

The previously separately available CIS-Hardening Addon is hereby being discontinued. The functionality is now included in the base system and can no longer be manually activated.

What was implemented

  • The IX Security Baseline is automatically applied as soon as an image is built or updated.
  • All images currently available in the Cloud Portal have been updated and already contain the IX Security Baseline.
  • Additional selection or configuration by users is no longer necessary.
  • The new standard hardening completely replaces the previous CIS-Hardening Addon functionally.

Next steps

The CIS-Hardening Addon will be completely removed from the ix.Cloud Portal by the end of June.
Until then, it will remain technically visible but without functionality or necessity.

The final removal from the frontend will be announced in the corresponding Release Notes.

Affected components

  • All Linux images in the ix.Cloud Portal

Impact on the community

  • No more manual selection of CIS-Hardening required
  • Consistent security configuration across all Linux operating systems
  • Security level remains unchanged compared to the old CIS-Hardening Addon
