Release Notes 23.03
This document describes announcements and discontinuations in the scope of ix.Cloud services as of March 24, 2023.
Announcements
This section describes changes to existing services as well as the introduction of new features and services included in this release.
Optimization of Service Level Offering
As part of our data center strategy, we have improved and simplified the Service Level offering through various measures.
The strategy provides for producing Service Levels primarily through our primary data centers in St. Gallen and Gais in the future. The Chur data center will be further developed in parallel as a disaster recovery site.
Consequently, the following services have been introduced:
- Service Level Gold in Gais
- Service Level Bronze in Chur
In connection with this announcement, various services are being discontinued (see Discontinuation: Optimization of Service Level Offering).
Refactoring of Software Deployment Service Description
The service description for the Software Deployment service has been refactored (see news entry).
Terraform Adapter (Beta)
ix.Cloud resources can now also be provisioned via Terraform Adapter. All information about the Terraform Adapter can be found in the news entry.
ix.Cloud Newsletter
As of now, you can subscribe to the ix.Cloud Newsletter. Further details on how to subscribe to the newsletter can be found in the news entry.
Discontinuations
This section lists features and services that are being removed from the service scope with this release.
Windows Server 2012R2
On October 10, 2023, the operating system "Windows Server 2012R2" will reach End-of-Life (see vendor link). On this date, Inventx will also discontinue support for all add-ons and thus also for the "Managed-OS" add-on on the Windows Server 2012R2 operating system.
All Managed DB instances based on the Windows Server 2012R2 operating system must be migrated by the customer to a newer version.
Optimization of Service Level Offering
As already presented at the Community Meetups in May and November 2022, the following services will be discontinued as of end of June 2023 or with release 23.06:
| Service Level | Location | No longer available for order in portal | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platinum | Geo-redundant (St. Gallen / Chur) | effective immediately | The Platinum Service Level is being replaced by the Rhodium Service Level. |
| Gold | Chur | upon activation of Gold Gais | see Announcement: Optimization of Service Level Offering |
| Silver | Chur | effective immediately | New orders are only possible in St. Gallen and Gais. |
| Bronze | Gais | upon activation of Bronze Chur | see Announcement: Optimization of Service Level Offering |
Existing resources operating on the discontinued Service Levels will be migrated by Inventx according to the following list and in accordance with existing Service Management processes.
- Platinum resources will be converted to Rhodium resources.
- Gold and Silver resources in Chur will be moved to Gais.
- Bronze resources in Gais will be moved to Chur.
Resource migration will be performed without disruption as far as possible. If non-disruptive migration is not possible, Inventx will contact the resource owner and develop a joint migration plan.
Redundancies will not be affected and will align with the corresponding Service Levels including backup location.
Management and modifications of existing VMs at the Chur location will remain available throughout the entire migration phase.
Hardware Type GPU
The hardware type "GPU" will be discontinued with release 23.06 and removed from the service catalog.
If needed, this can be provisioned via Generic Request and made available again as a managed service.
