Release Notes 23.12
This document describes announcements and discontinuations in the scope of ix.Cloud functionality.
Announcements
This section describes changes to existing functionality as well as introductions of new features and services that have been introduced as part of this release.
Namespace as a Service
With the Namespace Service, not only can namespaces be ordered on your own cluster, but it is also ensured that quotas are defined. These can be continuously adjusted according to your needs. This enables optimized deployment. (see Service Catalog Namespace as a Service)
ix.Cloud Terraform Adapter Release
Our ix.Cloud Terraform Adapter is leaving the beta phase and is officially available as version 1.0 as of 01.01.2024 (see Terraform Docs).
Managed OS
Managed OS is an optional add-on for Virtual Machines (VMs) that are operated with an Inventx Owned OS. When this add-on is activated on a VM, Inventx assumes activities that contribute to increasing the security and availability of the operating system.
- Patching: Continuous correction of software with regard to stability, security and currency.
- Monitoring: Includes monitoring of operations through systematic collection, measurement and observation of a process or operation using technical tools.
- Protection: Antivirus software on servers protects against malicious software programs by scanning the server for viruses/malware. It detects and reports these threats.
Benefits
- Self-service for defining exclusions
- Streamlined incident management process via SOC / CRC directly from Splunk
- EDR is now also offered on Linux
Tenant Management Functionalities
A new menu item for Tenant Management is now available. Through this, all tenant settings can be configured. In an initial version of this new feature, functions such as Custom Properties and Regex Naming Validations are included. It is possible for Subscription Admins to override certain settings, however these overrides remain visible to the Tenant Admin (see News Entry).
Database Services
The OpenSource PaaS service offering is being further expanded (see Service Catalog - Database Services).
- PostgreSQL 14 and 15 are now available in the Community and Enterprise Edition in the portal.
- MariaDB 10.6 and MongoDB 5/6 will be available as of 01.04.2024 in the Community Edition in the portal. MariaDB is also offered as an alternative derivative to MySQL Community Edition, among other things.
Agile Factory
Several adjustments were made to the Service Catalog for the Container Service Agile Factory. The number of worker nodes has been expanded from 16 to a maximum of 30 pieces, and spares have been defined based on cluster size. (see Service Catalog Agile Factory - Worker Node Table)
The Persistent Storage table has been supplemented with an additional StorageClasses column. This ensures direct linking to the respective service offering and makes it transparently visible to the user. A recommendation is available under the following link. (see Service Catalog Agile Factory - Persistent Storage)
Linux System Disk Size
System disk size now 80GB instead of 70GB. The capacity for /usr is increased from 5GB to 10GB to provide sufficient capacity. Additionally, we provide a further 5GB as reserve based on experience.
Discontinuations
This section lists features and services that are being removed from the scope of functionality with this release.
For discontinuations, migration can be supported by Inventx via Change Request.
IaaS+
IaaS+ is being replaced by Managed OS (see Managed OS Service Catalog)
MySQL 8
Support for MySQL 8 on CentOS 7 will be discontinued as of June 30, 2024.
MongoDB 4.4
MongoDB 4.4 reaches end of life in February 2024 and will therefore no longer be offered by Inventx and will also no longer be supported from that point on.
PostgreSQL 11/12
PostgreSQL version 11.0 is end of life and will therefore be removed from the Service Catalog. PostgreSQL 12.0 reaches end of life as of November 2024.
Agile Factory Storage Classes
The two Storage Classes with integrated backend automatic snapshots do not provide the value in the Agile Factory service in practice with which they were initially designed. For this reason, we are discontinuing the two Storage Classes "netapp-block-std-snap-ndr$CUSTOMER-$ENV" and "netapp-file-std-snap-ndr-$CUSTOMER-$ENV" at the end of June 2024. The alternative and recommended approach is to use the two classes "netapp-block-std-ndr$CUSTOMER-$ENV" and "netapp-file-std-ndr-$CUSTOMER-$ENV".
